THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS
ABOUT JOE BEST BEST
GANGS, GOLDMAN SACHS & GURUS
Joe Best Bliss's life mirrored the movie "The Pursuit of Happiness," but career and financial success never relieved him of a deep sense of suffering. Desperate for relief, he ran from these intense emotions with the same hope for happiness he embraced during his climb from the streets of East London to Wall Street. However, no amount of material acquisition could soothe the inner turmoil he felt. Realizing the futility of the Western happiness doctrine, he resigned from Goldman Sachs as an Executive Director and began his second quest: the pursuit of truth.
He received and qualified in various therapies, but they still fell short. So, he traveled to India and experienced a deep awakening at a satsang in 2004. The experience was brief but revealed that the end of suffering was possible. He spent the next decade trying to recreate that sense of freedom and make it a way of life.
After studying hours of ancient text and meeting teachers from all over the world, he saw that always trying to avoid or replace these feelings was the cause of the suffering and that is the very thing all therapies and most practices do, So instead he chose to fully embody and allow them. To his surprise, a profound sense of liberation occurred. After more than a decade of testing and mastering this approach in all circumstances, The Bliss Practice was born.
Bliss, according to Ramana Maharshi, is the natural state of the self. It is not something to be achieved or acquired but is always present within us. This bliss is synonymous with the experience of pure being and consciousness.
Joe's father is named Best, and his mother's maiden name is Bliss. Is it coincidence or destiny that Joe Best Bliss is named after the essence of all experience, which has become his life's work? Regardless, he dedicates his entire body of work to them.
"YOUR BLISS BLOOMS IN YOUR SHADOWS"
Our shadows exist because we repress certain aspects of ourselves, which is why they are called shadows. However, when we pay conscious attention to them and allow them to be exactly as they are, it illuminates these shadows. Darkness is the absent of light, shadows are the absense of presence. It’s as simple as that.
